Using transgenic contructs or transformed ES cells, either provided by investigators or created by the MBP, we can perform pronuclear and blastocyst microinjection for creation of transgenic and knockout mice. Transgenic mice can be created by hybrid mouse pronuclear microinjection With additional effort and cost, inbred mice can also be used, circumventing problems associated with genetic hybrids and need to backcross. The MBP uses B6 male and female ES lines to produce gene-targeted mice in order to preclude the need for backcrossing from 129 mice. Specialized procedures for creating mice, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), intracytoplasmic nuclear injection (ICNI), and the production of aggregation chimeras are all available. Mice can be reanimated from frozen embryos, sperm, or ovaries. With these capabilities, we can assist with the rescue or rapid expansion of infertile mouse lines through IVF and ICSI.
